Implus expands in Clayton

Athletic accessory manufacturer Implus is expanding its footprint in the Triangle, leasing nearly 294,000 square feet of warehouse space in Clayton.
The Durham-headquartered company, whose portfolio includes foot care and fitness brands such as Yaktrax, TriggerPoint and FuelBelt, didn’t return a request to comment on the move, which was disclosed Tuesday by real estate firm Foundry Commercial.
According to Foundry, the Implus deal puts the 706,405-square-foot Carolinas Distribution Center on Clatyon’s Shotwell Road at full capacity.
“With this recent lease, Implus is now one of the largest industrial tenants in the Raleigh-Durham region,” Foundry stated.
Implus has grown significantly in recent years through acquisitions. In 2016, for example, it acquired certain assets of Spenco Medical Corp., including the Spenco Insole and the 2nd Skin medical adhesive products.
But it’s grown its own organic product lines at the same time, such as Sof Sole, a brand offering insoles, socks and shoe care that Implus began in 1991.
Implus, which is majority owned by Berkshire Partners, a Boston-based investment firm, had 450 employees in 2016. Sales were expected to top $300 million that year.
Foundry Commercial opened its Raleigh office in 2016 and has more than 30 brokers, property management professionals and administrators.
