Altec Industries celebrated an expansion at its Creedmoor campus with a ribbon-cutting and groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, June 11. Altec is a global provider of equipment and services for the utility, telecommunications, tree care and construction industries. The Creedmoor facility was established in 1992 to expand its small service aerials in the tree care market.

The company invited local officials from Granville County and Creedmoor to participate in the ceremony, including County Manager Drew Cummings. “It is a great opportunity for some of our community leaders to be able to come to the facility and see what we’re about and what we’re doing,” said Courtney Clem, Altec’s  marketing account manager.

The ceremony was held in the middle of the  Herstellung plant. Pierre Messier, the general manager of the Creedmoor campus, along with Joe Gonenc, the senior vice president of manufacturing, spoke to attendees. Several active employees paused their tasks to listen in. The 90,000-square-foot expansion is expected to create about 200  jobs over the next 18 months, as the plant will be able to operate with at least 40% more capacity.

“These investments are a key part of Altec’s long-term strategy to increase capacity to better serve our customers,” said Gonenc. “But just as important as that, it reflects something deeper. Our commitment to our people and to this community. Because growth only matters if it’s done the right way.” Cummings also spoke at the event and said Altec’s expansion shows that Granville County “has been and is a good and productive location for this kind of industrial growth.”

Charla Duncan, director of Granville County Economic Development, also attended.

“We work on economic development because we want to see good jobs created, and we want to see capital investment because that’s how we pay for services,” Duncan said.
